PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang should be charged under the Penal Code as he contravened the Sultan of Terengganu’s order not to give political speeches in mosques.
Dr K.N.Singh, a social media commentator said he should be charged under Section 124B as it is a criminal offence to commit an activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy by any means directly or indirectly. This is punishable with a prison term of up to 20 years.
“This warning was also given by the Terengganu religious through the directive of the Sultan. Hadi deliberately ignored the directive and gave a lecture and reiterated that it alright for the people to topple the government showing disrespect for the Sultan.
“The people can bring down the government but this can only be done through the ballot box and this was done in 2018 and 2022 elections in Malaysia. You cannot go up on stage and say people can topple the elected government. Section 124i also states that any person who spreads false reports by any means that are likely to cause public alarm commits an offence punishable with a jail term of up to 5 years,” Dr K.N.Singh said in a Youtube video.
This is indeed a challenge for the government and Hadi should be charged in the courts. If not the credibility of the government and the Sultans will be eroded by Hadi who thinks he is the saviour of the Malays, now that Tun Mahathir has been unceremoniously dumped by the people when he lost his deposit, Dr Singh added.
“Hadi was also taken to court by Sarawak Report editor Clare Rewcastle brown, but he settled out of court with a million-dollar settlement as he knew he will lose and dirty linen will be aired in public. I urge Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and the government to arrest Hadi though it would cause a uproar in the Malay community.
Meanwhile, in a The Star column, Dr Rais Hussin, president and chief executive officer of EMIR Research said: “The political heat is rising, combusting on racial and religious fuel to such an alarming level that is bad enough for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to order the security forces to be on alert. This came as a result of the build-up of recent controversies such as Tan Sri Hadi Awang’s statement relating to the supposed “rights” to plan the toppling of the government, the outdated Mentega Terbang issue (why now?), the “Jom Ziarah” programme involving the visit of places of worship by the youth to promote better awareness on the nation’s diverse society and the ban of religious talks in mosques in several states, which was seemingly ignored.”
