According to The Star, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad is prepared to serve as a "mentor" to anyone aspiring to become the next prime minister.
The former prime minister, who has served as prime minister twice, announced that his office is always open to anyone who wants to become the future prime minister.
"This is what the Perdana Leadership Foundation is for. Come and join my foundation if you want to become a leader.
He was quoted by The Star as saying, "I will teach you how to become a PM," during the book launch of "Idealis: Syed Hamid Albar" here on Wednesday, November 27.
Dr. Mahathir went on to say that he found it simpler to deal with the current political climate because it is very different from the past.
"We don't have to encourage others to pursue PM careers. In the past, there was no issue of who should be the PM. However, these days it’s different. To become prime minister, they now establish parties. Therefore, I recommend appointing not one but several prime ministers. Only then everyone can be happy because they get to be prime minister," he remarked.
'Idealis: Syed Hamid Albar', penned by Noor Hasilah Ismail and Firdaus Zainal, was introduced by Tun Dr. Mahathir at the Royal Lake Club. According to Hamid, the word "idealist" in the title refers to his propensity to have high expectations for getting the best results.
According to the New Straits Times, the book uses a lighthearted storytelling style to make it approachable for readers.
Some of the experiences Hamid told in his speech about his political career in Umno and as a minister in the government of former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad are now immortalized in the book.
The former member of parliament for Kota Tinggi noted that he was a frequent critic of the party, including the then-chairman Mahathir, which increased his admiration for the latter's choice to appoint him to his cabinet.
