Former PM Dr Mahathir allowed two-day home leave from National Heart Institute as his recovery from a hip fracture progresses satisfactorily.

KUALA LUMPUR: Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been granted a two-day “home leave” from the National Heart Institute (IJN).

His press secretary Sufi Yusoff said the medical team is satisfied with the 100-year-old’s recovery level and response to treatment.

Dr Mahathir was allowed to return to his own home to sleep on February 4 and 5. He returned to IJN each morning to continue his treatment and for observation by the medical team.

“Although allowed to return home in stages, Dr Mahathir remains under the observation of the IJN medical team,” Sufi stated.

He added that Dr Mahathir and his family appreciate the concern and prayers from all parties.

The medical team has advised that Dr Mahathir not receive any visitors for now, except for close family members.

The statesman was admitted to IJN on January 6 after a fall at his residence in Seri Kembangan. It was later confirmed he had sustained a fracture to his right hip.
