100-year-old former PM Tun Dr Mahathir seen at Pavilion Damansara café, first outing since hip injury
MALAYSIA’s centenarian statesman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been spotted in public for the first time following a three-week hospitalisation, appearing at a café in Pavilion Damansara.
The 100-year-old former prime minister was photographed seated in a wheelchair at the shopping mall’s café, dressed casually in a short-sleeved collared shirt paired with a traditional kain pelekat.
His press secretary Sufi Yusoff confirmed the significance of the outing, describing it as a positive step in Dr Mahathir’s recovery process.
“He’s out having coffee at Pavilion Damansara. It’s his first public outing 22 days after his admission,” Sufi stated to several media outlets.
The appearance comes after Dr Mahathir was hospitalised for treatment and observation, a development that drew widespread concern given his advanced age and medical background.
According to earlier reports on January 10, the former premier is undergoing an extended recovery following a hip fracture. The injury occurred when Dr Mahathir fell at his residence around 7:30 AM on January 6.

The fracture affected his right hip, and he has been receiving care at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur.
The café visit, though assisted, provided reassurance to Malaysians who have been following updates on his medical condition closely. As the nation’s longest-serving prime minister, Dr Mahathir remains a figure of significant public interest, with his health status closely monitored by supporters and citizens alike.
