Kota Kinabalu: Sabah filmmakers are encouraged to hold discussions to prepare a comprehensive proposal paper for submission to the State Government.
State Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Julita Mojungki said this proposal could be used to develop a policy to support the growth of the local creative industry and, in turn, boost Sabah’s economy.
“I am also ready to help address issues related to job opportunities for film crews in Sabah, especially creative graduates who are forced to switch to other fields due to limited employment prospects,” she said during a courtesy visit by the producers and directors of the film “4X4 Horror” to her office here, Thursday.
The film “4X4 Horror” is a production combining four short horror films directed by four local directors.

Meanwhile, Julita welcomed the initiative of this project, as it demonstrates the willingness of Sabah’s producers to step out of their comfort zones by creating films without relying on government funding, such as from the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (Finas) or offers from television stations.
“Our films can be shown in 17 cinemas in Sabah, including Labuan.
“What is important is that the films produced are of high quality and have commercial value, so that audiences are entertained and, in turn, the films can generate enough revenue to fund future productions,” said Julita.
“4X4 Horror” producer Chester Pang said four districts, which are also the locations where the actual events took place, have been chosen for filming.
Among these districts are Kiulu for the short film “Penunggu,” directed by Pang himself, Kota Belud for “Mangat,” directed by Jass Tarmin, Kota Kinabalu for “Jemput,” directed by Zahm Zulkifli, and Tambunan for “Momisok,” directed by Timothy Stephen.
“Each short film will be around 23 minutes long, and they will be combined into a full-length 90-minute film,” he said.
Jass, Zahm, co-producer Ronney Sigoh, and production manager Bibi Harith were also present during the visit.
