Former Sarawak governor the late Abdul Taib Mahmud's wife, Raghad Kurdi Taib, has expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital in Kuching where her husband was admitted due to “poor treatment and inconsistent medical advice.”

Raghad refuted in a statement a police investigation that stated she "absconded" Taib from the Normah Medical Specialist Centre, even though she had encouraged him to remain there for appropriate care, as shared by Free Malaysia Today.

She added that on February 3, after informing Tan about Taib's scheduled visit with a physician at Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur (CVSKL), the supervising physician, Dr. Tan Sian Kong, approved Taib's discharge.

She added that she will take legal action against the hospital if needed and that she has filed a police complaint refuting the allegations made against her. She also stated that she is willing to assist the police with any inquiry.

Tan declared him fit for travel and authorised his discharge. Tan's CVSKL referral letter, according to her, “further supports the validity of the discharge and scheduled admission.”

“Informed consent and Taib's right to choose his best care were the foundations for the decision to bring him home.”

According to Raghad, Taib's discharge was approved by the relevant hospital staff, and all required discharge paperwork had been signed in accordance with hospital policy.

She emphasised that it is "completely untrue" that she removed Taib's prescription drugs on her own initiative without informing the hospital staff, and that she repeatedly asked for help from the staff to remove Taib's medical equipment, but that the hospital staff had disregarded her requests.

"The hospital needs to look into and investigate this serious issue of poor treatment and inconsistent medical advice," Raghad stated. Unnecessary stress and confusion have been caused by the false accusations." said Raghad.

The remains of the former Yang di-Pertua Negeri, the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud, were safely buried at his family's cemetery in Demak Jaya at 2.20pm on 22 February 2024.

The deceased who breathed his last at the age of 88 was buried next to the grave of his first wife, Puan Seri Laila Taib.
