Do Drama X UM GECC: Frame It Up! Learning Drama the Vertical Way

KUALA LUMPUR – Drama Byte Sdn Bhd, the company behind Do Drama – Malaysia’s first dedicated short drama app – brought the world of vertical storytelling to campus with its latest educational initiative, “Frame It Up! Learning Drama the Vertical Way.”

Held on 30 October 2025 in collaboration with the Graduate Employability and Career Centre (GECC) of Universiti Malaya (UM), the event gathered over 40 studentsfrom the Faculty of Creative Arts, aspiring storytellers, filmmakers, and creative eager to explore the fast-growing world of mobile-first drama content.

The event featured two of Malaysia’s notable industry figures – Aidilfitri Mohamed Yunos, acclaimed director of KLIP 3GP and Paku Hatiku, as well as Aliff Ihsan Rahman, award-winning filmmaker and creative producer. Both speakers shared their expertise on how vertical storytelling is transforming the entertainment landscape, offering students real-world perspectives from concept to screen.

Through the sharing session and a hands-on workshop, participants experimented with adapting traditional filmmaking techniques for vertical screens – learning to craft compelling narratives designed for mobile viewing. The workshop bridged classroom theory with industry practice, providing students with valuable exposure to Malaysia’s rapidly expanding digital entertainment scene.

“Frame It Up!” is part of Drama Byte’s broader mission to connect education with industry by nurturing the next generation of creative talents. The initiative also highlighted the Let’s Do Drama Contest, an ongoing nationwide competition inviting creators to submit original vertical short dramas in two categories – the Creative Professionals League and Student Creators League – offering more than RM2 million in prizes.

As part of the campus activation, the Drama Byte team also hosted a pop-up booth at Foody Avenue Twelve, UM, where students could learn more about the Do Drama platform and participate in a lucky draw for exclusive Do Drama merchandise.

“Our collaboration with UM GECC represents a meaningful step in nurturing new Malaysian voices,” said Hakim Naser, Marketing Director of Drama Byte. “Through initiatives like Frame It Up!, we’re not only inspiring creativity but also creating real pathways to employment and recognition in the entertainment industry.”

Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Sr. Hasniyati Hamzah, Director of UM GECC, said, “Partnerships like this allow our students to experience how theory meets practice.Working with industry players like Drama Byte builds confidence and gives them the hands-on exposure needed to succeed in Malaysia’s creative economy.”

By aligning academic learning with digital innovation, Frame It Up! successfully empowered Malaysia’s next generation of mobile storytellers – shaping the future of local entertainment, one vertical frame at a time.
