The Companies Commission (SSM) has, in its media statement today, expressed regret at an incident which saw a woman barred from entry because of the length of her dress, but stands by their dress code instruction.
SSM said that its dress code for customers have long been in place and discriminated no one, as practised by other government agencies.
They add that the customer was able to complete her transactions on the same day.
“On March 10, the customer who was assisted by an SSM officer completed her transactions at 3.20pm on the same day.”
To revisit the incident, it all began when a woman, who wore a dress which ended slightly above the knee was denied entry into Bangunan SSM in Ipoh.

According to the woman in question, Khor Hooi Chin, she had to go to a nearby mall, bought a longer dress and continued her transaction when the office reopened at 2.45 pm.
Currently, the relaxation of the dress code is only allowed in emergencies and are limited to life and death situations.
