Drink-driving: Woman jailed, fined RM10,000

TAWAU: A woman was sentenced to four days in jail and fined RM10,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here, for drunk-driving on Jan 18.

Nurlyna, 20, was given the sentence by Magistrate Dayang Aidaku Amira Aminuddin after admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol in Jalan Sim Hua Seng at around 3.35am that day.

The court also ordered the accused to be jailed for three months if she failed to pay the fine and her driving licence suspended for two years.

Based on the facts of the case, the result of the woman’s breath test found that the alcohol content in the accused’s blood exceeded the permitted limit of 50 milligrams of ethyl in 100 millilitres of blood.

Read more The accused was charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a two-year jail and a fine of up to RM30,000, if convicted.

Meanwhile, another traffic offender was sentenced to two days in jail and fined RM1,500 after pleading guilty in the same court, to taking part in a competition or testing the speed of a vehicle.

Vincent Lim Vui Sen, 20, admitted to committing the offence at Jalan Chong Thien Vun, at about 12.22 midnight on Jan 28.

The court also ordered the accused sentenced to one month in prison if he fails to pay the fine and his probationary licence be revoked while losing eligibility to hold a driving licence for two years.

The accused was charged under Section 81 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries a fine not exceeding RM2,000 or imprisonment for a period not exceeding six months or both, if convicted.
