PETALING JAYA: A 43-year-old man is due to face six traffic-related charges today following an alleged police pursuit involving a collision with a patrol car and another vehicle in Singapore.
Police said the incident began at about 3.05am on Sunday along Raffles Boulevard, when the man allegedly failed to stop for checks, forcing officers to step aside.
During the pursuit, he stopped behind another car at a traffic light junction along Bayfront Avenue before allegedly attempting to squeeze between the stationary vehicle and a police patrol car. His car struck the patrol car’s driver’s door and the other vehicle’s rear right bumper before he fled.
The other car’s driver suffered back pain and was granted three days of medical leave. Police said the man also allegedly ran several red lights along Marina Boulevard, Sheares Avenue and Marina Link.
Investigations found that he did not have a valid driving licence, and his car was seized.
He faces charges of dangerous driving causing hurt, failing to stop when ordered to do so by a uniformed police officer, driving without a valid licence, using a vehicle without insurance, failing to stop after an accident and failing to render assistance.
Police warned that firm action would be taken against traffic offenders who drive without valid licences and urged the public to report suspected offences to help keep Singapore’s roads safe.
