Driver arrested after car hits security barrier at Istana Negara

A 21-year-old man was arrested for drink-driving after his car crashed into a security barrier at Istana Negara’s Gate 2 in Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR: A 21-year-old man was arrested after his car crashed into a security barrier at Gate 2 of Istana Negara early this morning.

The incident occurred at about 3.30 am at Gate 2 of Istana Negara along Jalan Changkat Semantan. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the Toyota Vios was travelling from Bukit Damansara.

No injuries were reported to the driver or any other party. The accident caused damage to the front of the vehicle, a bollard pole and the barrier gate.

Police conducted investigations at the scene, reviewing CCTV footage and recording the driver’s statement. A breathalyser test found the driver’s blood alcohol concentration to be 166 milligrams per 100 millilitres of blood.

This result exceeds the legal limit. The driver will be charged under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He is scheduled to be brought before the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court this morning.
