A DRIVER charged in connection with a recent crash that claimed the life of a Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin student has been ordered to undergo a mental examination at Hospital Permai in Johor Bahru.
The order was issued by Magistrate Noor Mazrinie Mahmood after Mohd Izuddin Zakaria, 32, was charged under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, an offence related to causing death by reckless or dangerous driving and punishable under the same Act.
According to the charge, the accused allegedly drove in a dangerous manner at about 1.55pm on Jan 5, 2026, at the traffic lights along Jalan Kemajuan near the Road Transport Department, resulting in a collision that caused the death of Syakirah Hanan Mazli, 25.
The court rejected any application for bail and ordered the suspension of all classes of driving licences held by the accused. The case has been fixed for mention on Feb 12.
The prosecution is being conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Anith Nabilah Rusli, while the accused is represented by counsel Ummi Sharmimi Harun from the National Legal Aid Foundation. - January 12, 2026
