Kota Kinabalu: An Indonesian driver died in hospital following a collision between his car and a bus along Jalan Tuaran near the Likas Petronas station early Sunday.
City police chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain said the incident occurred around 1.25am when the 46-year-old victim’s Perodua Viva allegedly exited a slip road to make a U-turn before being struck on the left side and dragged roughly 15 metres by a bus heading towards Inanam.
The critically injured driver was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II Emergency and Trauma Department by firefighters but succumbed to his injuries at about 3.50am, whilst the 34-year-old local bus driver escaped unhurt.
Both vehicles have been impounded for further inspection, and police are currently tracing independent witnesses as well as next of kin so a post-mortem can be conducted at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH).
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officer Insp Royston Ubak at 016-3130153 or visit the nearest police station.
