Driver hit with ban after object flies from vehicle into police car's windscreen

  • Glenn Lillie, 34, has been banned from driving for six months after an unsecured object flew off his car and smashed through an oncoming police car's windscreen.
  • The incident on the A120 in Essex showered two officers with glass, but the driving officer managed to safely bring the patrol car to a controlled halt.
  • Lillie failed to stop or report the collision, but Essex Police traced him to his Braintree address using camera footage and forensic examination of debris.
  • Appearing at Colchester Magistrates' Court, Lillie pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle involving a danger of injury, failing to stop, and failing to report an accident.
  • He was sentenced to a six-month driving disqualification, a 12-month community order with 140 hours of unpaid work, and ordered to pay £244 in costs and surcharges.
