RANAU: A man was injured after his Proton Saga crashed and caught fire along Jalan Ranau–Kundasang near Batu 3 on Monday evening.

Ranau Fire and Rescue chief PPgB Rantey Fred said the department received a public emergency call at 6.44pm and deployed seven personnel to the scene, three kilometres from the station.

Firefighters found the car about 90 per cent burnt and extinguished the blaze within minutes.

The injured driver was sent to Ranau Hospital by ambulance for treatment. The operation ended at 7.12pm after crews confirmed the area was safe.

The cause of the incident and estimated losses are under investigation.
