PITAS: A lorry driver was killed after a 10-tonne lorry skidded and plunged into a 40-foot ravine at Kampung Toliduson, here, on Thursday.
The Fire and Rescue Department received the emergency call at 4.42pm and dispatched five personnel from the Pitas station, with the rescue machinery arriving at the scene about 22 kilometres away at 5.04pm.
Firefighters used rescue tools and were assisted by two excavators to extricate the trapped driver from the vehicle before handing the victim over to the police for further action, while the operation ended at 9.37pm after ensuring the area was safe.
