Drinking and driving is probably one of the things that everyone unanimously agrees to be dumb.

Recently, the Chikushino Police Department organised a special campaign against drunk driving, reported Mainichi Shinbun. This is in memory of 3 children who lost their lives in a drunk driving incident in the prefecture in August 2006.

Now, when we think about the campaign, we would be thinking about posters and videos, but in this case, a participating driving school wanted to give local drivers a more hands-on experience.

A reporter, Yuichiro Kodama, for the prefecture news channel, FBS News, had participated in this campaign and throughout the whole process, he was filmed.

At first, he needed to be sober and drive through several very curvy obstacles which he completed with minimal effort.

Then, he was required to drink a cup of beer along with 5 highballs. This resulted in him having an alcohol level of 0.87 milligrams of alcohol per litre of breath which is nearly 6 times the permitted level ( 0.15 milligrams).

Now that he is properly tipsy, he needed to attempt the course once again and this time, with a driving instructor by his side.

This time, he was having much difficulty navigating the course as he hit some safety cones and the poles at the side of the course. After everything, the reporter came out of the car looking exhausted and it seemed that he could barely keep his eyes open.

The driving instructor told him that the way he was handling the care just now would have 100% caused an accident if they were on the road.

You can watch the full video here.

Well, we would say that this campaign is a success and maybe authorities in Malaysia can consider doing something similar as well!
