A drone that came down in north-eastern Lithuania over the weekend was armed with explosives, the authorities said on Monday.
The drone was defused where it was found in a field in the Utena district some 100 kilometres north of Vilnius and near the border with Latvia and Belarus, a Russian ally, according to Lithuanian media reports.
No one was injured in the incident, which was reported by local residents.
The precise time that the drone entered Lithuanian airspace and its route remain unclear, and no information has been provided on its origin. The authorities indicated that they believed it could have been launched by Ukrainian forces targeting north-western Russia.
Prime Minister Inga Ruginienė convened a meeting of the country's National Security Council for Wednesday. She said there was no immediate threat to the population. But she posted on Facebook that the latest incidents involving drones and airspace violations presented a rising security challenge.
Ukrainian drones aimed at Russian targets have repeatedly strayed into the Baltic republics, possibly after electronic jamming by Russian forces.
