Kota Kinabalu: From over 250 reported cases in the first two weeks of January, Sabah finally sees a decline in dengue cases in the past three weeks.

Sabah Health Department Director Dr Rose Nani Mudin said the close of the year’s sixth week last Saturday saw 230 cases per week compared to 253 previously, a drop of 23 cases or nine per cent.

A total of 1,482 cases have been reported throughout Sabah since the beginning of 2023.

“Hotspot localities also dropped from 19 to 15 within the past two weeks. Sandakan has nine (9) cases, Tawau (3), Lahad Datu (2) and one in Kota Kinabalu.

“Three dengue deaths were recorded this year in Sandakan, Kudat and Kunak compared to zero in 2022,” she said, adding all victims were girls.

Rose said the death in Sandakan involved a nine-year-old from Kg Tinusa 2 Laut, while the case in Kudat involved a nine-year-old foreigner from Kg Sibogoh Balak, Pulau Banggi.

“The death in Kunak involved a 12-year-old foreigner living in Kg Jaya Baru Bakau,” she said.
