TAWAU: Only 127 food premises in Tawau earned Grade A certification in 2025, down from 140 last year, mainly due to limited enforcement manpower, said Assistant Minister for Women, Health and Community Wellbeing Datuk Rina Jainal.

Out of 553 licensed premises, just 312 were inspected, highlighting gaps in hygiene compliance, she said after a ceremony organised by Tawau Municipal Council on Sunday.

Rina urged operators to maintain cleanliness standards, warned that some outlets were downgraded due to poor management and staff turnover, and reminded Ramadan bazaar traders to follow health rules, including typhoid vaccination, while avoiding unreasonable pricing or misleading packaging.
