Drugs: 16 men, 4 women nabbed in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: Police arrested 16 men and four women for alleged involvement in drug-related activities around the district.

Sandakan District Police Chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the suspects were detained in a series of operations conducted by officers from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division between Oct 1 and 8.

Among the areas raided were Taman Tyng, PPR Taman Mesra, Kampung Sungai Obar, Bandar Leila, Jalan Batu Sapi, Kampung Kombo, Bandar Prima, Kampung Forest and Taman Gaya.

Of the total, two men were detained under Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Urine screening tests revealed that all suspects tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.

All of them are being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for suspected drug abuse.

In addition, one of the female suspects was also found in possession of ketum liquid and powder and will be investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952.

All suspects are being detained at Sandakan District Police Headquarters for further action and investigation.

George said the operations reflected the police’s firm commitment to eradicating drug-related crimes in Sandakan.
