Drugs: 7 men penalised

Kota Kinabalu: Seven men were penalised by the Magistrate’s Court here Monday for committing drug-related offences.

Six of them Herman Ibrahim, Benhar Hasdali, Emanuel Jana, Zulamri Sali, Bryan Justin, Moksin Jalal pleaded guilty before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to taking drugs, an offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

They were all sentenced to seven months’ jail each.

Herman, Benhar, Emanuel, Zulamri and Moksin, who were undocumented, were ordered to be referred to the Immigration Department after serving their sentences.

Bryan was ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.

The charge against them provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or up to two years jail, on conviction.

Meanwhile, the other man, Abdul Main Asaddi, also undocumented, was handed 10 months jail for having 0.17gm of syabu here on April 19.

Abdul was also ordered to serve the sentence from his arrest date and be referred to the Immigration Department after that.

Abdul was charged under Section 12 (2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a fine of up to RM100,000 or up to five years jail or both on conviction.

In the same court, the case of a storekeeper, who was charged with burglary, will have his case mentioned on Jan 25.

The prosecution applied for another pre-trial case management for the case of Jemar Aman, as some documents were not ready.

Jemar, 37, was accused of breaking into a house belonging to Freddie Wong at Taman Malakun in Penampang at 10.30am on April 10.

He had on Nov 15 claimed trial to the charge under Section 457 of the Penal Code.

He was offered bail at RM4,000 in two sureties. Inspector Kelvan Elson Maik prosecuted.
