TAWAU: Police here arrested a 27-year-old foreigner under suspicion of being involved in drug activities in Kg Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4, Saturday.

Tawau District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect tried to flee when approached by a police team carrying out crime prevention operations in the area.

While police did not find any wrongdoing upon further inspection, however, the man admitted that he had taken drugs two days ago.

“The result of a urine screening test conducted later found him positive for syabu,” Jasmin said.

The suspect was then taken to the station for further action by Narcotics Crime Investigation Division under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Commenting further, he said the arrest was one of the police’s efforts to deal with the problem of drug abuse and crime prevention in the district.

He said police are actively expanding patrols to cover the interior areas throughout the month of Ramadhan.

Jasmin hoped that the effort would continue to allow residents to live without fear, in addition to encouraging two-way cooperation between the police and the community.

At the same time, he wanted the community to work together in drug busting by helping the police become their eyes and ears.
