THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is ready to provide psychosocial, financial and other forms of assistance to overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) displaced by the war in the Middle East.
The assistance is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to ensure the safety and welfare of Filipinos affected by the political tensions in the region.
DSWD officials said several repatriated OFWs have arrived in the country and were assisted by the agency in coordination with the Department of Migrant Workers and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration.
DSWD Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said on Thursday psychosocial intervention is among the key services that the agency will provide to returning OFWs who may have experienced trauma or anxiety due to the conflict.
Upon arrival at the airport, returning workers will be assessed by social workers to determine the appropriate psychosocial support and other assistance for them.
The DSWD’s “Angels in Red Vests” personnel will also conduct stress debriefing sessions, counseling and interviews to address the emotional and psychological needs of the repatriated workers.
The agency said temporary shelter may also be provided through its centers and residential care facilities for OFWs who need accommodation while arranging travel back to their home provinces.
Aside from psychosocial services, the DSWD will extend financial assistance through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program and livelihood opportunities under the Sustainable Livelihood Program to help returning OFWs reintegrate into their communities.
