DSWD releases P5,000 fuel subsidy for delivery riders in the provinces

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Wednesday started distributing cash assistance to more than 150,000 Private Express and Messengerial Delivery Service (Pemedes) drivers outside Metro Manila affected by rising fuel prices.

Social Welfare Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said each qualified delivery rider will receive P5,000 to help ease the impact of continued increases in petroleum prices.

“The regional payout of cash relief assistance for Pemedes drivers outside Metro Manila has started, and we will ensure continuous distribution to help them meet their daily needs amid high fuel prices,” Dumlao said.

The cash aid, released under the agency’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program, covers drivers from various courier and delivery companies. Separate payouts are also ongoing for transport workers in Metro Manila.
