DSWD, TikTok partner for entrepreneurship training

THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and social media giant TikTok have partnered to promote digital entrepreneurship and online selling.

Under the initiative, TikTok Shop Philippines will provide Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) beneficiaries with specialized training on live selling, content creation and affiliate marketing, enabling them to market their own products online or generate additional income by promoting products through the platform. Dubbed “Kabuhayan Konek TikTok Edition SLP! Tara, Live Sell Na! DSWD SLP x TikTok Unlad Lokal Launching and Roadshow,” and held in Valenzuela City on Friday, around 170 beneficiaries of the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program received training and P10,000 in seed capital funds. Klaude Mandaya, TikTok Shop education and incentives manager, led the training sessions on live selling and content creation. Social Welfare Secretary Rexlon Gatchalian said that the DSWD is grateful for the partnership with TikTok Shop, noting the initiative would not be limited to Valenzuela City. ”Over the next couple of weeks, we will also roll it out in Vigan [Ilocos Sur], then Iloilo, and later in a city in Mindanao, which we have yet to select. Our goal is to expand it nationwide. The world is changing, the business landscape is evolving, and we need to keep up,” Gatchalian said. He encouraged people to maximize opportunities offered by the digital economy. DSWD and TikTok signed a memorandum of understanding during the event, with Gatchalian and TikTok Shop Philippines head of public policy Yves Gonzales as signatories.
