
BUSINESS name registrations grew by 19.69 percent in May, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) said on Thursday.
Data from the DTI’s Business Registration System showed 79,165 business names were filed last month, up from 66,144 in May 2025.
Of the total, 70,750 were new registrations, while 8,415 were renewals.
Majority of business names at 70,112 were registered online, while hybrid registrations totaled 8,142.
Wholesale and retail trade accounted for majority of the registrations at 41,332. The sector includes motor vehicles and motorcycle repair, as well as personal and household goods.
Accommodation and food services ranked second with 11,292 registrations, followed by manufacturing (4,522), real estate activities (3,864) and other service activities (3,324).
By location, Region 4A (Calabarzon) ranked first with 14,438 registrations, followed by Metro Manila (14,258), Region 3 or Central Luzon (11,805), Region 1, Ilocos (4,224), and Region 7, Central Visayas (4,060).
The five-month period also saw a jump in numbers from last year.
From January to May, business names rose by 11.63 percent to 622,706 compared to 557,827 filings in the same period last year.
In 2025, the business name filings fell by 4 percent to 1.02 million from 1.06 million in the prior year.
Introduced in 2019, the DTI’s business name registration system was streamlined and rolled out in 2023.
