DUALOG has launched a company-controlled messaging service designed to streamline ship-to-shore communication and reduce information loss during crew handovers.
Dubbed “Dualog Chat,” the platform is the first service under the maritime digital solution provider’s Workspace suite. It provides vessel-, rank-, and role-organized channels to replace fragmented reliance on personal messaging applications.
A 2026 survey of 1,187 seafarers conducted by Dualog revealed that 68 percent of respondents experienced loss of critical information during crew handovers. Dualog Chat targets this operational vulnerability by linking message histories directly to specific roles rather than individual personal accounts.
“Dualog Chat connects people in a way that reflects how shipping operates,” said Silje Moan, chief commercial officer at Dualog. “By organizing communication around the vessel, the rank and the rotation, it helps crews retain context through each handover and shore teams reach the right person. The information that matters stays within the company.”
The platform assigns each user a distinct identity — eliminating shared logins — and integrates with existing crew management systems to automate access during rotations. The system supports compliance with identity and access control standards established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS).
Operational features include text messaging, voice notes, and audio/video calling optimized for low-bandwidth maritime connectivity. Fleet managers can broadcast messages to specific ranks across multiple vessels or store key operational details — such as rates and port instructions — on a secure central platform.
Dualog Chat is in early access across web, iOS, and Android devices. Dualog plans to expand the Workspace platform to include maritime email, file sharing and a native AI assistant.
