Dubai has finished building its first dedicated flying taxi hub, with commercial flights by Joby Aviation set to start before year’s end.
DUBAI: Authorities have announced the completion of the world’s first purpose-built flying taxi station. Commercial operations from the facility are slated to begin before the end of the year.
Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai, visited the new electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) Air Taxi Station. The four-floor facility spans 3,100 square metres and features two take-off pads and dedicated charging infrastructure.
Located near Dubai International Airport, it will serve as the main hub for air taxi operations. The station is designed to handle up to 170,000 passengers annually.
Three additional flying taxi stations are also in the planning stages. Operations will be exclusively run by California-based Joby Aviation for a six-year period.
“The launch of the Air Taxi infrastructure marks an important step in adopting new, sustainable modes of transport,” said Sheikh Hamdan. He added that it strengthens Dubai’s readiness for future decades.
The city has positioned itself as a leading regional hub for business and tourism. This new transport initiative underscores its commitment to pioneering urban mobility solutions.
