  • The Duchess of Kent, Katharine Worsley, who was married to the late Queen’s cousin, the Duke of Kent, has died peacefully at the age of 92, Buckingham Palace announced.
  • Known for her empathy, she famously consoled a tearful Jana Novotna at Wimbledon in 1993 and presented trophies at the championships for many years.
  • She chose to drop her HRH style, preferring to be known as Mrs Kent, and spent over a decade teaching music at a state primary school in Hull.
  • She was the first member of the royal family in over 300 years to convert to Catholicism in 1994, and her funeral is expected to be the first Catholic service for a royal in modern British history.
  • The Duchess also founded the charity Future Talent, which supports music education for children from low-income backgrounds.
