Kota Kinabalu: Two men suspected of trying to steal cables belonging to a telecommunications company were apprehended by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) auxiliary police team.
The duo were arrested near Condominium Bay 21, Jalan Tanjung Lipat, Tuesday, at 4am.
SESB Senior General Manager (Asset Management), Ir. Idris Mohd Noor said the suspects were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
According to him, following the widespread theft of cables owned by SESB in recent times, its auxiliary police launched a special operation dubbed Electric Cable Operation.
“Spying and patrols were carried out by SESB auxiliary police team in areas identified to have frequent incidents of cable theft,” he said, Wednesday.
A total of 20 SESB auxiliary policemen led by Senior Manager of the Security and Intelligence Department, Aszman Jaiman were involved in the operation.
Idris said SESB also confiscated equipment suspected of being used to steal electrical cables.

Meanwhile, SESB is monitoring supply disruptions that occur in several districts in the State.
Idris said efforts are being actively implemented by SESB’s technical team to gradually restore supply.
Several areas in the State experienced power outages since 10.30am Wednesday due to the technical problems faced by the Independent Power Generator Turbine.
He said in order to stabilise the grid frequency in the Sabah Grid, the Under Frequency Load Shedding Scheme (UFLS) mechanism has been activated to prevent the grid system from being completely paralysed.
“The system has experienced load shedding of up to 55MW and to ensure grid stability, SESB has had to implement supply rationing to deal with load demand throughout the state. Supply is being gradually restored and SESB will continue to monitor the situation which is expected to return to full normal tonight.
“The restoration of supply is carried out in stages and SESB apologises for all the difficulties experienced by consumers,” he said.
