Kota Kinabalu: Two men were each fined RM1,000, in default three months in jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here for fighting in public.
Datu Mohd Azis Datu Mursid, 38, and Mohd Najar Abbat, 37, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin to committing affray at about 11.54am on Sept 5 this year at the Inanam Bus Terminal.
The offence, under Section 160 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to six months, or a fine of up to RM1,000, or both upon conviction.
Prosecuting Officer Yusdi Basri said the fight occurred after Najar became dissatisfied with Azis, who worked for another bus company, for taking passengers who had earlier booked their tickets with Najar’s company.
The incident was later circulated on TikTok, prompting the terminal management to lodge a police report as the fight had disrupted daily operations and affected the terminal’s image.
Both accused, who were unrepresented, appealed for a lenient sentence, saying they had family responsibilities.
Yusdi, however, applied for a deterrent sentence for both men.
