POLICE have sent an audio recording linked to the fatal shooting incident in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, to CyberSecurity Malaysia for forensic examination as part of an ongoing investigation into the deaths of three men during a police operation last month.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M. Kumar said voice samples from the victims’ family members, the complainant and police officers involved in the operation have been collected to enable comparative analysis.
“The audio recording is among the key pieces of evidence and was therefore sent to CyberSecurity Malaysia for analysis,” he said at a press conference at Bukit Aman today.
Kumar explained that the authenticity of the recording must be established, as it was submitted by the complainant, who alleged it was obtained by one of the victims during the incident.
He added that while the forensic process is under way, the investigation paper will be referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers today for further direction.
Addressing the status of the officers involved, Kumar said they have been removed from active enforcement duties while investigations continue.
“This is in line with the AGC’s view that although the case is classified under Section 302 of the Penal Code, the police must first establish elements of misconduct before any further action can be taken,” he said.
He stressed that the probe is being carried out transparently and without compromise, noting that the Integrity and Standards Compliance Department is conducting a parallel investigation, while the CID is assessing whether any criminal elements are present.
Kumar added that investigators have recorded 45 oral statements since the investigation began.
The case stems from an incident on November 24, when three men aged between 24 and 29 were shot dead at an oil palm estate in Durian Tunggal at about 4.30am. Police previously said one of the men allegedly brandished a machete at an officer, injuring a corporal on his left arm, prompting the shooting.
However, the victims’ families have denied that account, leading police to establish a special task force to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal encounter. - December 29, 2025
