MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp on Saturday confirmed that the vice president received the National Bureau of Investigation’s invitation for a conference on allegations by dismissed police officer Rodulfo M. Gracioso Jr., weeks after the former policeman accused her of receiving more than P2 billion in cash deliveries.
The confirmation came from Duterte’s counsel Paul Lawrence Lim, who said the camp sought Gracioso’s affidavit and supporting documents before the vice president responds to the NBI.
“The vice president received the NBI’s invitation for her to attend a conference on Mr. Rodulfo M. Gracioso, Jr.’s allegations,” Lim said in a statement.
“However, since no official copy of Mr. Gracioso’s affidavit was included with the invitation, we have requested the NBI for a faithful copy thereof and all its supporting documents, if any,” he added.
The NBI had announced last week that it would invite Duterte and other personalities named in Gracioso’s affidavit as part of its investigation into his claims.
Gracioso, a former security aide to then-speaker Lord Allan Velasco, alleged that he delivered cash to Duterte more than 20 times, with the total amount exceeding P2 billion, which the vice president denied.
“Once received, the vice president will take appropriate action thereon in due course,” Lim said.
