MANILA, Philippines — Lawyer Karen Batu, witness for the prosecution of the House of Representatives, testified on Tuesday that Vice President Sara Duterte’s declared net worth posted a meteoric rise of nearly 1,280 percent as she held successive local and national elective government posts over 18 years, climbing from P7.25 million in 2007 to P98.66 million in 2025, based on her Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs) presented before the Senate impeachment court.
Duterte's SALNs were authenticated and read by lawyer Karen Batu, officer-in-charge of the Office of the Ombudsman’s Central Records Division, during her direct examination on the 25th day of the impeachment trial.
Based on the records, Batu confirmed that Duterte’s declared net worth stood at P7,250,497 in 2007, when she first entered elective public office.
By 2025, Batu said that the declared net worth of Duterte and her husband, lawyer Manases Carpio, had reached P98,656,131.20, representing an increase of approximately P91.4 million from the 2007 figure. The increase from 2007 to 2025 amounts to about 1,280 percent.
Based on Batu’s testimony, the declared net worth figures recorded in the SALNs included: 2007: P7,250,497; 2008: P18,493,616.65; 2009: P18,281,264.65; 2010: P16,242,886.65; 2011: P14,271,148.45; and 2012: P22,116,101.93.
Duterte was not in elective public office during portions of the period, and no publicly available SALNs were identified for 2013 through 2015.
When she returned to elective office, the figures recorded in the SALNs were: 2016: P34,895,997; 2017: P44,828,759; 2018: P49,699,728; 2019: P55,613,051; 2020: P56,583,735.10; and 2021: P65,308,841.
After Duterte became vice president, the declared net worth figures continued to rise: 2022: P71,658,841; 2023: P77,508,841; 2024: P88,512,370.22; and 2025: P98,656,131.20.
