Despite still being managerless, Il Tempo says Newcastle are in talks with Roma for the France midfielder.
Gonalons spent last season on-loan with Sevilla and is available from the Giallorossi this summer.
Newcastle will push for a similar loan arrangement for the midfielder.
West Ham and Everton are also interested in Gonalons.
