Everton boss Sean Dyche praised their attitude after victory over Brentford.

The Blues flew out the blocks and were handed a dream start when Dwight McNeil struck a stunning strike past Brentford's David Raya to put the hosts ahead inside 35 seconds for the fifth fastest Everton Premier League goal.

The goal proved the winner and Dyche said: It was a game of two halves.

We were very strong first half, we had two or three golden chances to be up in the half. We dealt with a lot of their threat well.

Second half, they came at us. They are a good side. We didn't deal with it as well, we didn't deal with the ball well. We gave it away far too many times.

But the resilience of the side is growing, the mentality is growing and sometimes you have got to fight against a side who are unbeaten in 12. We have delivered a performance that deserved three points.

[Brentford created] no really golden chance, apart from the one Jordan made a great save. He was quick across his line and reacts to it.

We are building a mentality. It takes time but they are delivering. On the physical side of the game, make sure they are doing the hard yards.

First half, we were good with the ball, we pressed, we broke up the game and we were effective."
