PETALING JAYA: The e-hailing driver seen in a recent video dragging a female passenger out of his car and leaving her stranded on a highway has been charged in court and convicted, say police.

In a statement, Brickfields police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood said police arrested the driver, a 28-year-old local man, after his victim lodged a police report.

“The suspect was charged in the Kuala Lumpur court on June 19 under Section 324 of the Penal Code (voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon) and fined RM2,000 by the court,” he said.

Section 324 provides for imprisonment of up to 10 years, a fine, or whipping, or any two of those punishments.
