AN e-hailing driver suffered injuries to the left side of his face after being assaulted with a steering wheel lock in an altercation believed to have arisen from a driving misunderstanding near a petrol station on Jalan Lingkaran Dalam, Johor Bahru.
The incident, which has since gone viral online, was reported by a 38-year-old local man. According to the Chief of Johor Bahru Selatan Police District, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, preliminary investigations revealed that the dispute began when the victim drove out of the petrol station abruptly, prompting the suspect to brake suddenly.
“The suspect then exited his vehicle before striking the victim in the face with a steering wheel lock,” Raub stated in an official press release.
As a result of the assault, the victim sustained injuries to the left side of his face. Acting on the information, police arrested a 35-year-old local man suspected of involvement in the attack. Authorities also seized the steering wheel lock allegedly used during the incident.
Urine tests conducted on the suspect returned negative for drugs, and checks confirmed he had no prior criminal record. The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing injury using a weapon. The police plan to apply for remand at the Johor Bahru Magistrate’s Court on Sunday.
Earlier, a seven-second video circulated on social media showing an individual removing a steering wheel lock from a car boot and striking a vehicle believed to belong to the victim, drawing widespread public attention to the incident. - December 28, 2025
