A quick-thinking e-hailing driver helped save a 71-year-old woman from losing  RM10,000 to an alleged love scam after becoming suspicious of a transaction she was attempting to make at a bank in Rembau, Negeri Sembilan.

According to Kosmo!, Rembau District Police Chief Superintendent Ngiam Ooi Ming said the incident happened at around 5.30pm yesterday when the elderly woman was being taken to a Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) branch by the driver.

The driver reportedly suspected that the transaction the woman was about to make could be linked to a scam and immediately contacted the Rembau Police Station to alert authorities.

Following the report, the Rembau Police Station Deputy Chief and several police officers rushed to the BSN branch to check on the situation.

When police arrived, the woman was reportedly attempting to transfer RM10,000 into an account believed to be linked to the alleged scam.

Fortunately, officers managed to stop the transaction before it went through. The RM10,000 was subsequently returned to the woman’s BSN account, potentially saving her from suffering an even bigger financial loss.

However, police checks reportedly found that the woman had already fallen victim to the alleged love scam before the incident.

She had previously made two transactions to accounts belonging to the alleged syndicate, transferring RM4,950 and RM4,900 respectively. This means she had already transferred a total of RM9,850 before the e-hailing driver stepped in and contacted the police.

The Rembau police chief said the driver’s suspicions and quick action allowed police to intervene before the additional RM10,000 could be transferred.
