E.On to buy Ovo and create UK’s biggest energy supplier

• German energy firm E.On has agreed to acquire rival Ovo, a deal set to create the UK's largest energy supplier.
• The combined entity will serve approximately 9.6 million customers, surpassing current market leader Octopus.
• The acquisition is subject to regulatory approval, including scrutiny from the UK's competition watchdog, and is anticipated to conclude in the latter half of 2026.
• Both companies assured customers that tariffs would be honoured and there would be no immediate changes while regulators review the deal.
• Separately, Ovo has also agreed to sell its home services division, which offers boiler servicing and insurance, to Hometree.
