KUALA LUMPUR: Amid much warmth and joy, residents at two Orang Asli villages enjoyed an early Christmas celebration with parties, food and gifts for some 500 children, and donation of essential food items to 800 adults.
The events were sponsored by STM Lottery Sdn Bhd, which contributed RM35,000 to Strategic Methods and Ongoing Achievements Bhd (Semoa) to organise the Christmas celebrations.
STM Lottery Communications and Sustainability deputy general manager Giam Say Khoon said the company has been collaborating with Semoa on similar events since 2013.
“Our collaboration with Semoa is our way of bringing joy and happiness in conjunction with the Yuletide season.
“It is wonderful to see the joy and happiness on their faces, especially the 500 children who received Christmas gifts. Even adults were grateful for the provisions.”
The two villages were Kampung Sungai Kelubi in Rawang, which had its event on Dec 3, and Kampung Kepong Kuchai in Raub on Dec 9.
Giam said Christmas is a time for joy, compassion and sharing, which are also core values of its Helping Hands programme, in which STM Lottery staff volunteer for charity activities.
“In this case, we are happy to collaborate with Semoa and contribute to the well-being of the Orang Asli community. We hope to spread warmth and happiness so that the less privileged would also enjoy the festive season.”
Other than the contributions, the Helping Hands team actively participated in events in both villages to create meaningful and memorable experiences for the communities there.
The Christmas events also featured a range of activities, entertainment and traditional festive elements that embodied the spirit of the season.
STM Lottery and Semoa are dedicated to fostering a sense of community and togetherness to bring smiles to residents in rural areas.
Giam said organising the Christmas event is a testament of STM Lottery’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable community development under the Helping Hands programme.
