KUANTAN: Contractors who complete projects under the Public Works Department ahead of schedule may be given a priority advantage in future government tender exercises. Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan (pic) said this incentive is for contractors who manage projects with efficiency and discipline.
He stated that contractors with excellent performance, strong financial records, and no penalties or ailing projects will receive good evaluation scores. Ahmad made these remarks after visiting the FT1486 road upgrading project site from the Bukit Goh traffic light junction to KotaSAS.
He cited examples like a bridge construction in Air Patau-Patau, Labuan, finished nine months early. Repair works at Labuan Vocational College were also completed more than a year ahead of the original schedule.
Ahmad explained that early completion allows public use of facilities sooner and saves government costs from delays. Contractors also reduce their operating costs, with potential savings of up to RM2.4 million if a project finishes a year early.
Meanwhile, he reported that 528 out of 855 nationwide JKR projects are progressing smoothly. From these, 255 projects are ahead of schedule and 273 are on schedule.
Only 35 projects are currently categorised as ailing, compared to 53 in the previous monitoring meeting last October. Ahmad said this shows a positive downward trend in problematic projects.
He earlier attended a meeting on monitoring public infrastructure construction projects at the Pahang State Administrative Centre. The meeting was attended by about 40 representatives from various states to review project implementation status.
