SHAH ALAM, July 8 — The Minda Sihat programme, aimed at preventing emotional issues, is being actively implemented in schools, including at the secondary level, said state executive councillor for public health and the environment Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The initiative reflects the state government’s awareness of current concerns and its serious commitment to preventing depression among students at an early stage.
“Through the mental health screening, only 2.8 per cent of over 36,000 students showed early signs of depression. However, the data remains under control.

“That is why we are implementing the Minda Sihat programme, which includes five core strategies, including prevention. There is no need for a separate programme, and it is currently being carried out in all secondary schools,” she told Media Selangor.
Yesterday, during the State Legislative Assembly session, Jamaliah disclosed that 1,020 students — or 2.8 per cent of the 36,428 secondary school students surveyed — were found to exhibit high-risk early signs of depression based on a patient questionnaire study.
In response, she said the Selangor Education Department remains ready and gives priority to issues concerning students’ emotional well-being, including implementing Minda Sihat.
Jamaliah added that the programme comprises five strategies: promotion, screening, intervention, consultation, and referral – all aimed at preventing emotional problems, strengthening socio-emotional resilience, and supporting mental wellbeing.
