Ease vehicle ownership rule for diesel subsidy, says Chan

Kota Kinabalu: Deputy Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin has called for improvements to the Budi Madani diesel subsidy mechanism, particularly by easing vehicle ownership requirements for Sabah and Sarawak residents.

He said many families in the two states use vehicles registered under their parents' or relatives' names, making the current ownership requirement difficult for genuine subsidy recipients.

Chan proposed adopting a mechanism similar to the RON95 subsidy system, allowing eligible citizens to receive the subsidy without additional vehicle ownership conditions.

Speaking at the Program Jiwa Komuniti Madani Hari Kebangsaan Hari Malaysia 2026 for the Luyang Community here on Saturday, he said the move would ensure the subsidy reached those who genuinely needed it.

Chan also urged every household, business, government office and government-linked company (GLC) in Sabah to fly the Jalur Gemilang before Aug 31 as a show of patriotism and national pride.
