While Terengganu’s MB was in New Zealand, storms & floods lashed his state and displaced over 40,000 people.
Netizens are reportedly upset with the MB who took off despite warning by Malaysian meteorological department of severe weather and flooding on the East Coast as early as December 9. Netizens were relentless in lashing out at the Terengganu MB, Ahmad Samsuri, and his wife who were in Auckland, New Zealand from December 11. They had since returned to handle the crisis.
Most affected by floods and storms this year is Terengganu, with 40,000 victims relocated across some 300 relief centres. But what is most disheartening is the failure of the state government to send food supplies to flood victims stranded at relief centres.
At the same time Kelantan saw over 30,000 residents displaced state-wide.
Like a hero, Anwar arrived in Kota Bahru announcing that the government has approved an immediate flood allocation of RM100 million to both Kelantan and Terengganu, where each state would receive RM50 million to assist people affected by the floods.
What's the moral of the story then?
If there's a lesson to be learned here is that if you were an MB of a state, avoid going overseas during Monsoons. This applies to other ministers too.
Observers like netizens and others will blame you for neglecting your job. Learn from the failure of Najib in handling a similar disaster when he took off to play golf with Obama in Hawaii during the worst flood that lashed the East Coast not too long ago.
Secondly, if you were a voter in the recent general election, make your representatives more accountable for not helping out during the disaster.
Lastly, as a newly appointed PM10, this is a golden opportunity to shower aid on the badly hit states, regardless whether they voted for you or not in the recently concluded election.
