EastEnders character to make return to soap after nearly three decades away

  • S Club star Jon Lee is set to reprise his role as Josh Saunders in EastEnders, nearly three decades after his initial appearance in 1997.
  • Lee will return for the funeral of Nigel Bates, played by Paul Bradley, who recently died following a long-running dementia storyline and a stint in hospital with pneumonia.
  • Josh Saunders, the son of Nigel's ex-wife Julie, featured in 20 episodes in 1997 before Lee joined S Club 7, achieving significant pop success.
  • The funeral will also see the return of Lee's on-screen step-sister Clare (Gemma Bissix) and TV mum Julie Haye (Karen Henthorn).
  • Lee expressed that it was 'quite surreal stepping back on to Albert Square' and 'lovely to see my onscreen family again' after so many years.
