
THE Election Commission has announced the official timelines for the upcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan, setting the stage for what is expected to be closely watched contests.
Election Commission chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said nomination day for the Johor state election has been fixed for June 27. Early voting will take place on July 7, followed by polling day on July 11.
For Negeri Sembilan, nomination day has been set for July 18. Early voting will be held on July 28, with polling scheduled on August 1.
The announcement was made today in Putrajaya, formalising the election calendar and triggering the start of political preparations on the ground.
On June 1, Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi announced the dissolution of the 56-seat Johor State Legislative Assembly after obtaining the consent of Regent of Johor Tunku Mahkota Ismail.
Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun followed suit on June 4, announcing that the 36-seat Negri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly would be dissolved the next day after receiving the consent of Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
In the 2022 Johor state election, Barisan Nasional won 40 seats, PH secured 12, Perikatan Nasional won three, while Muda captured one.
In Negeri Sembilan, Pakatan Harapan won 17 seats while Barisan Nasional secured 14 seats, giving the coalition control of the 36-member assembly. Perikatan Nasional won the remaining five seats.
A total of 2,727,926 registered voters qualify to vote in the 16th Johor State Election based on the Supplementary Electoral Roll for April 2026, which was gazetted on 21 May.
Of the total electorate, 2,703,175 are ordinary voters, while 24,751 comprise police personnel and their spouses from the General Operations Force (GOF), members of the armed forces and their spouses. - June 12, 2026
