Kota Kinabalu: Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Christina Liew believes Sabah’s economic development will improve with the reopening of flights from China to Sabah which will resume on Feb 1.

She said this during a courtesy visit by Kota Kinabalu Journalists Association (KKJA) led by Jimmy Goh in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.

She said this in response to Jimmy who asked when China will resume its outbound tourism.

She also said that she will discuss with the hotel industry to ensure there are sufficient rooms to accommodate the arrival of more tourists.

Additionally, Jimmy said he is pleased to see that China has fully restored its connection with the world.

He believes that more flights to Sabah will open various opportunities and help promote the recovery of the state’s tourism industry and economic development.

He said it is understood that flights from Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Sabah will also be launched next month with two flights per day.

Christina said she will announce more good news about the reopening of flights between China and Sabah in the near future.

Meanwhile, the KKJA committee also paid an earlier courtesy visit on the association’s advisors Datuk Chin Su Phin and Candy Wong Sui Kyun as well as sponsor Richard Lim. Jimmy presented Chinese New Year greeting cards on behalf of the Association and extended the Association’s thanks to the advisors and sponsor for their support over the years.

The committee exchanged ideas and views on the current affairs of the State and the country as a whole during the visit.

While thanking the two advisors and sponsor, Jimmy hopes the collaboration fostered with KKJA will grow stronger in the coming years.

Present were KKJA Secretary Teo Jinn Jiun, Treasurer Yvonne Ho, Liaison Officer Chu Pying Ting, Training Officer Sherell Jeffrey, and Committee Members Lo Teck Loong and Yap Siong Han.
