KOTA KINABALU: The Energy Commission of Sabah (ECoS) recently conducted a specialised course on the Electricity Supply Enactment (ESE) 2024 and the Efficient Management of Electrical Energy Regulations (EMEER) 2024.
The course targeted electrical energy managers registered with Suruhanjaya Tenaga (ST) and Certified Energy Managers (CEM) from ST Accredited Training Institutions who are working or planning to work in Sabah.
Thirty participants from across Sabah attended the course, which included briefing sessions and an examination to assess their knowledge of the new legislation effective in Sabah since Jan 3.
ECoS Chief Operating Officer Ridwan Saham said participants who pass the examination can apply for an ECoS Electrical Energy Manager Registration Certificate.

Read more Those holding ST Accredited Training Institutions’ CEM certifications will need to undergo an additional oral examination conducted by ECoS.
The initiative aims to ensure that electrical energy managers and CEMs possess an ST-equivalent ECoS registration certificate.
Existing holders of the ST Electrical Energy Manager Registration Certificate have until Jan 2, 2025, to obtain the equivalent ECoS certification.
“This course ensures that managers are knowledgeable not only in technical aspects but also in Sabah’s specific legislation, including ESE 2024 and EMEER 2024,” Ridwan said.
He said this aligns with the Qualification Requirements under Regulation 12(1)(b) of EMEER 2024.
Ridwan also warned that non-compliance could result in legal action under Regulation 22 of EMEER 2024, with potential penalties including fines up to RM20, 000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both.
